This print serves as a tribute to the iconic Victorian high country as it was decades ago, before devastating fires swept through here. The scene was discovered while photographing what would become the original, full-colour print, 'Snowy River Country' - an image which has long since sold out. The tragedy is that so much of the destruction by fire could have been prevented. If the high country cattlemen hadn’t been locked out of these areas – the very places they once made legendary – the forests would be far better cared for than today. In many cases, national parks authorities lack the resources to effectively care for such vast regions. It is my hope that sensible land management policies will once again prevail, allowing for a more collaborative approach to protecting these precious national treasures for future generations.
